The Celestial Nile is that pathway of stars through the heavens, known as the Milky Way. On this great star-swept river, the soul of the Initiated, sailing in a ship of Light, traveled through the Gateway of the Zodiac to the Seriadic domain of Isis.

The music on Celestial Nile was recorded over several years between Seattle and Glasgow. It is essentially dance music. Fully developed in 1990 for the choreography El Jardin de los Misterios, for Jacques Broquet and the company DanzaHoy, in Caracas, Venezuela. Re-mixes and additional selections were added in 1998. These works were recorded and mixed at the Transdimensional Bedroom Studios, Seattle, and in various live locations. Guest artists performing on these recordings include: percussionist Signy Jakobsdottir, percussionist/dancer Jacques Broquet, and vocalist Jana Szabo. Celestial Nile is an electro-acoustic music that seeks melodic and harmonic links between a great many world percussion instruments as well as between past and present; performer, listener and the unknown. The instruments used on these recordings include Indonesian Gongs, drums and gamelan instruments, African drums and mbira, Chinese Opera gongs and percussion, Latin American hand drums and percussion, Roto Toms, Middle Eastern darbuka and North African doumbek, Tibetan bowls and Nepalese Kyezee, Indian drums, mouth harps and zithers, the haunting Balinese suling, and more. |
